Sleeping Bear Dunes is a National Park & Tourist Attraction in Leelanau County. My father would call this part of the mitten "God's Country." Believe it or not, but Heaven on earth is real in this 35 mile-long part of Lake Michigan. This past weekend I had the time of my life and had the blessing to experience this lovely place. If you love Boating, Kayaking, Biking, Hiking, or even Just sight-seeing you must visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
My lovely girlfriend had a couple days off from work, and got invited to go visit her awesome mother and her boyfriend who reside in the area. We arrived in the evening time and stayed at a local campground called DH Day Campground in Glen Arbor. When we first pulled in we felt right at home. The campground has a short walk to the beach through the campground, and our first night staying we grabbed a bottle of wine and snuck off to the beach around 11:30 P.M. As we arrived to the beach it was beyond peaceful. We walked along the shoreline and found a nice spot not too far from the campground trail. We laid out a nice beach blanket and laid back and glanced at the stars for what seemed like forever.
The sky was so clear in Northern Michigan, I felt as if the stars were only 100 feet above. After we talked for several hours and sipped our delicious wine, we headed back to our campsite for some sleep.
When we woke up the next morning we were ready for our big day. We had a cup of Coffee, and began our Adventurous mission. Only a few minutes away from our campground, we reached what called the Scenic Drive. Imagine driving through a Cozy route through the beautiful green trees that swarmed the sides of the road like they were hugging your car. Dashes of sunlight leaked through the woods, as we drove to the top of the dunes. Our first stop was at sight #9. Talk about an incredible view of the water. We wandered around for a bit, stomped our feet through the sand and took a few pictures. What an awesome experience, yet this was one small hike compared to our next.
Our Next Mission was a longer walk but as you know, it's so worth it. Glen Trail was noted by the notorious TV show Good Morning America. We first walked up a series of steps and trails where we seen super old farm equipment, it looked as if it was from the 1800's. The We then walked a little further, as we past tourists with beautiful dogs, and out of state families I started to see the water. We then reached a boardwalk that led to an incredible look out point. The picture below was taken at Glen Trail. In this picture you can see part #9 of the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Next time you get a weekend off and you need a get away, Glen Arbor is the place to do it. Whether it's a get away with your family or you and your significant other, don't hesitate to make this your destination. Even during COVID-19, Sleeping Bear Dunes is something you must knock off your bucket list. Don't forget your mask!
